Dried figs
A fig is the fruit or, more precisely, the pericarp of a plant called the common fig tree, common fig, Carian fig, fig tree. Other fig trees also have a similar type of pericarp, referred to by the specialized term syconium. It is a pear-shaped, leathery pouch, with a very tight opening. Inside it is filled with numerous fruits or flower remnants. The fruiting bodies contain up to several hundred fruits, which have the form of small, seed-like achenes surrounded by a spreading, fleshy flower base.
